ABB has secured two orders from Southwest Aluminum (Group) Co., Ltd. in Chongqing, China, to supply integrated automation, process control, and digital technology for cold rolling mills.
The contracts cover a 2,500 mm two-stand mill and a 3,000 mm single-stand six-high cold rolling mill, supporting the manufacturer's expansion of wide-strip aluminum production capabilities.
ABB will implement the ABB Ability™ System 800xA® distributed control system, standardized automation architectures, drive systems, flatness control, as well as sensing and measurement technologies. The deployment includes the ABB Ability™ Smart Manufacturing Solution for Cold Rolling Mill, providing data integration, condition monitoring, drive performance analysis, and predictive maintenance capabilities.
Full commissioning of both mills is targeted by the end of 2027.
