Brazil’s top bauxite producer, Mineração Rio do Norte (MRN), obtained an installation license from IBAMA, the environmental regulatory agency, for its Novas Minas project.

This permit enables the joint venture, backed by Rio Tinto, Glencore, and South32, to build five new mining sites in Pará state. The approval secures the company's future operations through 2041, maintaining its long-standing presence in Porto Trombetas.

MRN plans to spend roughly R$9 billion between 2027 and 2041 to develop the project. The investment targets a steady yearly output of 12.5 million tons of bauxite to meet global aluminum feedstock demand. This development concludes a licensing journey that began in 2018, ensuring a stable supply from one of the world's primary mining hubs.
