UAE-based Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) has entered into a partnership with port operator Gulftainer to boost its aluminium exports from the country's east coast, thereby avoiding the heavily disputed Strait of Hormuz.
In the first year of the agreement, EGA will ship 25,000 tons of aluminium products through east coast ports, with volumes rising to 300,000 tons in year two and potential for further increases thereafter. Gulftainer will enhance its port capabilities to accommodate EGA's operational needs.
Aluminium exports across the Middle East have been significantly affected by the shutdown of the Strait of Hormuz, prompting regional producers to explore alternative shipping routes to sustain deliveries.
EGA CEO Abdulnasser Bin Kalban noted that the deal represents a key advancement in the company's efforts to diversify outbound logistics and ensure reliable delivery.
