Hydro has cooperated with Parsons Healthy Materials Lab (HML) to investigate how advanced recycling and renewable energy are reducing aluminum's environmental footprint in construction. This partnership addresses the traditional view of aluminum as a carbon-intensive material due to coal-based primary production, presenting modern recycled alternatives as sustainable solutions for energy-efficient architecture.
The joint initiative features an ongoing material study examining the benefits and limits of low-carbon aluminum, with findings scheduled for publication later this year. Besides, the organizations co-hosted an architectural Masterclass in New York on April 28 to analyze building-value-chain emissions.
Early insights and post-consumer scrap design concepts are currently on display at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) 2026.
