Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) has brought 315 of 1,262 reduction cells back online at its Abu Dhabi Al Taweelah smelter, following an emergency shutdown caused by a regional geopolitical conflict in March that halted all operations at the Khalifa Economic Zone site.
EGA is gradually restarting the 1.5‑million‑ton facility across all three production lines, with around 1,000 workers involved, and CEO Abdulnasser Bin Kalban reaffirmed full production by the first quarter of 2027.
The refinery continues at 50% capacity, while the new recycling plant is ramping up as planned and is expected to reach full output by the end of the year. Further alumina production increases will depend on supply chain and sourcing strategy.
