China produced a record 3.98 million tons of aluminium in August, up 4.7% from a year earlier, according to National Bureau of Statistics figures.
Production during January-August reached about 31.1 million tons, a 3.9% annual increase.
Strong profit margins and higher prices following Middle East supply disruptions encouraged smelters to increase output. The production pace brings renewed attention to China’s annual smelting capacity ceiling of 45 million tons.
