It was reported that China's aluminum smelters planned to cut their production in the future months to respond to fewer supplies of hydropower during the dry season in Yunnan province, usually from November to April.
There will be approximately 9% to 40% of the production capacity from four aluminum smelters to be reduced, and some other smelters may follow the move. However, the exact company name is unknown.
According to an analysis, a loss of around 100,000 tons in the supply will be seen per month in China during the period from November this year to May next year. The aluminum production cut in Yunnan will also lead to an increase in China's imports of aluminum.
