Vedanta Aluminium, the largest producer of aluminum and value-added aluminum products in India, announced its long-term sourcing of 380 MW of renewable energy for its aluminum smelters. 180 MW will be used in the smelter in Jharsuguda, Odisha, and 200 MW will be for the Bharat Aluminium Company (BALCO) in Korba, Chhattisgarh.

After the project is online, there is a potential to reduce Vedanta Aluminium’s greenhouse gas emissions by 1,500,000 tons of CO2 equivalent annually.

The project will be realized through a power delivery agreement between Vedanta Limited and Special Purpose Vehicles, affiliates of Sterlite Power Technologies Private Limited (SPTPL).
