The US International Trade Commission launched an investigation into ArcelorMittal's allegation that Vietnamese automaker VinFast violated its patents concerning high-strength aluminum and aluminum alloy-coated steel in imported vehicles.
ArcelorMittal filed a complaint with the ITC in April and initiated a lawsuit against VinFast in California, accusing it of patent infringement in its VF 8 vehicle. VinFast denies the claim, stating it sources materials from a reputable supplier and is indemnified for any infringement damages.
VinFast plans to establish its first North American plant in North Carolina in 2025, producing VF 8 and VF 9 models. ArcelorMittal asserts VinFast has not sought a license for alleged patent infringement, with claims extending to other VinFast models beyond VF 8. ArcelorMittal's scrutiny includes purchasing and testing a VinFast VF 8 vehicle as part of its legal action.
