A group of US aluminum and steel companies had filed a lawsuit against several of their domestic railway companies for maliciously raising prices and charging customers unreasonable service fees.

For response, the defendants only admitted to raising freight rates between 2003 and 2008, when they were not regulated.

According to the lawsuit, nearly a decade of design made by the railroads had generated billions of dollars in additional profits for them.

Defendants' Railroad companies included CSX Transportation, BNSF Railway, Union Pacific Railroad, and Norfolk Southern Railway, etc.

While the defendants' rail companies had mostly been reluctant to speak publicly about the lawsuit, and a spokesman said such lawsuits were common to them and they would insist on denying it.
