The US aluminum industry urged President Trump to exempt Canadian aluminum from planned tariffs to protect domestic employment and manufacturers.

Last Saturday, Trump announced 25% tariffs on imports from Canada and Mexico and 10% from China.

The US heavily relies on imports for 44% of its aluminum, with Canada supplying over half, said Morgan Stanley. As a result, the Aluminum Association called for exemptions of aluminum imports for domestic manufacturers while maintaining strict measures against Chinese aluminum.
