RUSAL reported that its Ukrainian alumina producer Mykolaiv Alumina Plant (also known as Nikolaev Alumina Refinery) increased alumina production by 2.6% year on year to around 1.77 million tons in 2021.
Mykolaiv Alumina Plant is the second-largest alumina producer in Europe, only second to Ireland's Aughinish Alumina.
Aughinish Alumina, owned by RUSAL, produced around 1.88 million tons of alumina in 2021, a year-on-year decrease of 0.2%.
Separately, Mykolaiv Alumina Plant is the only importer of bauxite in Ukraine. In 2021, Ukraine imported 5.11 million tons of bauxite, down by 0.2% year on year. Ukraine’s bauxite sources were mainly from Guinea, Brazil, and Ghana.
