It was reported that the US’ electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer Tesla has received the US’ 10% tariffs exemption from the US Department of Commerce (USDOC) on aluminum imports from Japan for making battery cells.

These aluminum products were produced by Japanese Nippon Light Metal Holdings Company, Ltd. and then will be imported to the US-based battery plant Gigafactory in Nevada.

The reason for the USDOC’s agreement on Tesla’s exemption request was mainly because the US manufacturers couldn’t produce the aluminum products which met Tesla's requirements with enough quantities or quality.

The quantities of Tesla’s exemption request was 10,000 tons per year, and the exemption will be valid for 1 year, agreed by the USDOC.
