It is reported that SSAB, Swedish steel manufacturer of high-strength wear and structural steel and Gestamp to develop DocolPHS2000, a brand new rolling hardened steel, which was stronger than any other widely used vehicle-grade rolling hardened steel.
The purpose of this cooperation project was to develop a lighter, more cost-effective bumper material. After the completion of the research project, compared to the same type of bumper, the weight of the DocolPHS2000 was reduced as high as 17%, and it was lighter than the same level of aluminum bumpers.
The DocolPHS2000 would be able to improve the performance of the relevant automotive applications.
