Suriname’s government previously announced the launch of a process for attracting potential investors to develop bauxite projects in the Bakhuis region in the west of the country, and some enterprises from India, China, and the Middle East have expressed interest in participating in the bauxite project, which could attract billions of dollars in investment.
According to Daniel Lachman, the chairman of the presidential commission, said that the proven bauxite reserves here reach 324 million tons, and the actual resources could be greater.
From November 9 this year to January 29 next year, enterprises can formally express their interest in the investment of the bauxite project. Candidate companies are required to provide detailed plans before the concession is given in November 2024, such as how to address the project's power problems.
