It was reported that RUSAL will restart the operation of its Eurallumina alumina refinery located in the industrial area of Portovesme, South West coast of Sardinia, Italy, after many years of suspension.
Eurallumina, one of the largest alumina refineries in Europe with an annual output of 1.05 million tons, suspended its production in 2009 due to the decline in alumina prices, rising costs of bauxite, and high energy (fuel oil) costs.
The permission from local authorities will be obtained in November, which will allow the implementation of an alumina refinery modernization project worth around EUR 300 million.
The deadline to permit Eurallumina alumina refinery’s production resumption is before the end of 2022.
