Alro S.A. (Alro Slatina), one of the biggest aluminum companies in Romania, has launched a process to shut down its production due to the increasing electricity prices. 60% of its production capacity will be closed in the first phase.

Constantin Popescu, President of the trade union within Alro, said that the company is facing surging energy prices and a shortage of energy in the market, so it has started the closure process. The company cannot find energy. It also cannot produce aluminum at a price of US$2,300-2,600 per ton.
