Rio Tinto, one of the largest mining companies in Australia, said yesterday (March 10) that it is taking measures to cut all commercial relationships with Russia’s business.
It is now conducting an urgent review of Queensland Alumina Limited (QAL) in which it owned an 80% stake with its joint partner Russia's Rusal.
QAL, located in Gladstone, central Queensland, is one of Australia's largest alumina refineries. Rusal owns a 20% stake in QAL.
Rio Tinto has previously said it believed to have suitable structural ways to ensure operations in the aluminum industry not be disrupted.
