Rio Tinto, the second-biggest mining company in the world, said that it has received several offers to build 4 gigawatts (GW) of wind and solar farms to supply power to its alumina and aluminum operations in Queensland, Australia.

Rio Tinto said in June that its Boyne aluminum smelter, Yarwun alumina refinery, and Queensland alumina refinery need a total of 1,140 megawatts (MW) of steady power, and it was seeking the support of at least 4,000 MW or 4 GW of wind and solar power by energy storage.
