It was reported that Rio Tinto, a leading global mining group in Australia, said yesterday (October 31st) that it might be hard to afford to continue the electricity supply for the Australian aluminum smelters due to high electricity costs.
According to Alf Barrios, Chief Executive of Rio Tinto Aluminium, the offers from the smelters were lack of competitiveness in the international market, which negatively impacted the feasibility of projects.
He added that Rio Tinto has had a conversation with power suppliers and the government, trying to solve the problems. However, he believed that the situation was difficult to be solved.
