In 2019, Brazil's market experienced a surplus of primary aluminum and this trend was expected to maintain in 2020. However, it might change due to uncertainties such as import conditions and factors of pricing as well.
Insiders said that vertically-integrated plants like Albras and CBA had an energy advantage. Albras has an annual capacity of 460,000 tons and the figure of CBA is 450,000 tons.
In 2019, the total amount of aluminum output in the first 9 months accounted for 468,300 tons which fell by 8% when compared to last year. Currently, only packaging and energy transmission industries performed well, other industries have very low demand for aluminum.
It seemed that the aluminum demand was low in 2020. The influence factors included political measures, low GDP growth with 2.2%, tariff factors, etc.
