Crnogorski Elektroprenosni Sistem (CGES), the state-owned power transmission system operator in Montenegro, said that it will cut off the power grid of aluminum smelter KAP (Uniprom KAP) on December 31.
According to applicable regulations, if the power supply contract for Uniprom KAP in 2022 is not signed by December 25, CGES will be obliged to issue an order to completely suspend the electricity delivery through the transmission system on December 31.
The suspension of electricity supply to the electrolytic cells at the KAP aluminum smelter may cause damage to the technological process of the aluminum smelter, but Uniprom has no right to ask for any compensation from CGES.
KAP aluminum smelter accounts for around 20% of total exports in Montenegro.
