Metro Mining Limited, an Australia-based exploration and mining company, has produced and shipped 4.51 million wet tons of bauxite as of December 13, 2023 (since April 2023), meeting the lower end of its projected sales guidance, which was 4.5-5.0 million wet tons for 2023. The shipment in November was in particular high, reaching a record of 697,000 wet tons.
However, due to the Tropical Cyclone Jasper, Metro is now facing challenges for its operations. The company temporarily suspended its transshipping activities on December 13, 2023. It was forecasted that the unfavorable transshipment conditions might continue for another four to six days, but the mining and screening operations continue during the period.
