According to Malaysian Minister of Water, Land and Natural Resources, the ban on bauxite mining issued in 2016 will be extended until the end of 2018 due to the 500,000 tons stockpile of bauxite in the port.
Malaysia was once the largest bauxite supplier to China; however, Malaysian mining industries failed to have a good control in pollution problem. Therefore, the government commanded to stop all bauxite mining activities in early 2016.
