Jamaican bauxite industries’ gross domestic product (GDP) accounted for 38.3% of the country's total export value. The Jamaican bauxite exports were expected to continue last year's trend in 2018.
China was one of the major markets for bauxite exports to Jamaica. In 2017, China imported around 69,000 tons of bauxite from Jamaica, a year-on-year increase of 60%.
According to the recent statistics, Jamaica exported around 1.1 million tons of bauxite in 2016, with the export value of US$278 million. It was estimated that Jamaican bauxite exports would keep stable at 1.01 million tons in 2018, with the export value jumping to US$2.4 billion.
