It was reported that the Chief Executive Officer of Aluminum and Power business at Vedanta Limited, the largest aluminum producer in India, said that the firm noticed that the aluminum scrap surged in the past few years.
Currently, Vedanta was seeking support from the Indian government to protect the aluminum industry not to be impacted by increased aluminum scrap imports because the domestic market was still the key to make maximum sales in India. Therefore, Vedanta aimed to increase the export volume by over 50% of the total production to foreign countries this fiscal year.
Vedanta’s aluminum production occupied a market share of 37% in the total production in the domestic market. At the end of the previous fiscal year, Vedanta surpassed Hindalco to become the largest aluminum producer in India, with an annual production reaching 1.96 million tons, showing a year-on-year increase of 17%.
