It was reported that Indian aluminum producers requested government to impose tariffs on imported aluminum.

During April and October 2018, Indian aluminum imports hiked by 24% compared with same period of previous year, meanwhile the scrap aluminum imports also increased significantly.

Lower prices and increasing producing costs brought domestic industry mired in difficulties especially for the small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

In the past four years, the Indian producing cost soared about 30%. It was calculated that around 7% of SMEs’ margin were took away by finished aluminum imported from such China, Vietnam, Malaysia and Japan. Indian aluminum producers asked their government to increase the tariffs from 7.5% to 10%.
