On June 20, production at Hydro's Paragominas bauxite mine was suspended after three transmission towers toppled, cutting off power to the mine.
Currently, Hydro has begun the restoration of the tower and expected to restore normal power to the Paragominas mine in two to three weeks.
During this period, production at the Alunorte alumina refinery will be reduced to 50-70% of the total capacity to balance bauxite inventories.
Hydro expected the outage not to have a major impact on customers, and it is taking all necessary steps to restore power and normal operation as soon as possible.
