Hindalco Industries Limited, an Indian aluminum manufacturer, planned to invest Rs.800 crore to set up a new battery-used aluminum foil manufacturing plant near Sambalpur in Odisha to meet the continuously growing high-quality aluminum foil used in rechargeable batteries, especially for electric vehicles (EVs) and energy storage systems.
India’s demand for battery-grade aluminum foil is expected to increase to 40,000 tons by 2030, mainly boosted by rapid growth in advanced battery manufacturing gigafactories.
Hindalco’s new plant will be located next to a 25 MW solar power plant. It has an initial yearly production capacity of 25,000 tons and is scheduled to be put into production in July 2025.
