The Guinean government stated that it has approved the signing of a mining contract with a Dutch company so that SBG (Societe des Bauxites de Guinee) company can start to exploit bauxite by the end of 2022 and it would spend US$1.4 billion to develop bauxite and build an aluminum refinery.

SBG claimed that the mine has more than 300 million tons of bauxite reserves and planned to develop a new mine in the northwest of Guinea. The government stated that the mine was expected to produce 3 million tons of bauxite for export each year, and 5 million tons for refining aluminum at nearby plants.
