Erratic rainfall in China's southwestern region has hindered the multibillion-dollar greening of the aluminum industry. The aluminum industry production accounts for approximately 60% of global output.

China Hongqiao Group plans to transfer nearly 4 million tons of production from Shandong Province to Yunnan, including two factories, each with a production capacity of approximately 2 million tons. Meanwhile, the green electricity discount provided by the Yunnan Provincial Government has attracted the Aluminum Corporation of China to Yunnan.

However, as Yunnan's rivers and reservoirs decrease due to reduced rainfall, the reliability of electricity decreases. Currently, some smelters are already delaying plans or seeking new alternative locations.
