The president of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, said recently that the infrastructure development project would be completed by the end of 2018 and this project would be financed by bauxite.

The Ghanaian government hoped to increase the value of bauxite resources by increasing processing capacity. Therefore, Ghana also announced in 2017 that it signed an agreement with China to jointly develop a bauxite project with a total investment of US$10 billion, including railway and smelter construction.

This project would be the largest infrastructure construction project for Ghana. The construction costs for bridges, roads and hospitals would be financed by bauxite.

According to the statistics from the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the production of bauxite in Ghana was around 870,000 tons in 2013, and that of aluminum was 40,000 tons.
