Aughinish Alumina, the largest alumina refinery in Europe, had achieved an increase in 2018 revenues by 15% to US$757.1 million year on year, even facing that the US Treasury had implemented sanctions on the Limerick company’s parent.
However, despite the growing revenues, its pre-tax profits decreased by 19% in 2018. The reason of dropping profits at Co Limerick operation was increased costs.
The company had achieved about 1.81 million tons of alumina in 2018 at its plant on the Shannon estuary.
The costs at the plant had raised by 18% last year. The company now was seeking to supply own bauxite that would take the place of higher priced third-party supplied bauxite, along with its parent company Rusal.
