It was reported that Trimet's Essen smelter in Germany plans to reduce production to 50% due to high energy costs. Trimet has three aluminum plants in Germany with a total annual production capacity of 400,000 tons, and all of them were heard about production cut plans.
Since the fourth quarter of last year, European aluminum mills have been continually reducing their production on the energy crisis. Moreover, the escalated Russia-Ukraine war worsened the shortage of raw materials, hiked production costs, as well as aroused concerns about production reduction in Europe.
Up to now, except for countries using renewable energy such as Norway and Iceland, most Western European countries have cut production, with a total scale, including output cuts under plans, reaching approximately 900,000 tons per year.
