European Aluminium, an industry association representing the aluminum industry in Europe, expressed their view against the European Commission’s proposed 9-month suspension of the anti-dumping (AD) duties on China’s aluminum flat-rolled products.

The association said that the proposed suspension will not only impact Europe’s aluminum value chain and the production capacity of material essential to the EU’s green transition but also will increase China’s high-carbon-footprint imports, thereby affecting the EU’s climate ambitions.

European Aluminium also claimed in a statement that there is no risk of aluminum shortage in the EU market. However, the EU observers didn’t agree with this claim, saying that the LME aluminum price hit a 13-year high on September 13 due to China's pollution prevention measures and control, which restricted production and led to a decline in aluminum exports.
