Aloft Holdings, a Dutch company founded last November, is having advanced talks to acquire Australia's second-largest aluminum producer, Portland Aluminium Smelter, from US’ Alcoa Corp.
Aloft Holdings aims to buy and operate aluminum assets globally. It has done due diligence in Portland and has been negotiating a potential deal with Alcoa for months.
Aloft Holdings has also sought debt funding from Australian and offshore banks in order to convert its offer into a well-funded bid.
It was understood that Alcoa is keen to sell its stake as long as it can get the right price, while the company’s spokeswoman in Australia declined to comment on this issue last Thursday.
