Confirmed by the spokesperson, Damco Aluminium Delfzijl Coöperatie U.A. (ALDEL), an aluminum plant based in Delfzijl, the Netherlands, is planning to cut 60-70 jobs due to the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic, which reduced the demand for aluminum from the market.
Besides, the aluminum smelter is also facing high electricity prices and high production costs. Coupled with the impact of the pandemic, ALDEL decided to adjust its employment, which was expected to affect about 20% of employees.
The company will negotiate with the works council and trade unions about future matters. The uncertainty was predicted to last until early 2021.
