In order to produce higher performance and higher quality plates in the volumes needed by the US Department of Defense over the next decade, Constellium NV, the big and famous aluminum mill based in France, decided to remove the entirety of the 1950s-era mill at its plant in Ravenswood, West Virginia and replace it with state-of-the-art cold-rolling aluminum sheet equipment.
This project obtained great support from the US Department of Defense’s Industrial Base Analysis and Sustainment (IBAS) Program. The IBAS granted US$9.5 million to this project.
Last week, Constellium restarted its 144” cold-rolling mill at this site, which was regarded as the opening phase of this project.
