It was reported that China Hongqiao planned to move nearly 1/3 of its smelting capacity to Yunnan from Shandong province, which was to reduce its dependence on the power generated from coal-fired. The 2 million tons of capacity will be moved to Wenshan Prefecture, Yunnan in 2 phases.
Currently, China Hongqiao’s smelting capacity is located in Binzhou in northern Shandong province, using cold-fired power for the smelting process. Also, the company will do a project of solar power in Shandong.
The first phase of about 1 million tons of capacity in the Yunnan project was expected to commission in the third quarter of next year. The electricity costs for new plant will cost 10% less from current level.
