It was reported that a more competitive power agreement decided the future of America’s Century Aluminium's Mt. Holly smelter.
The firm’s production output could be lower if they continued to purchase its 25% power from the South Carolina Public Service Authority instead of the open market. The annual capability of Mt. Holly plant was approximately 229,000 tons, but now the operating was only half.
The risk of closure and uncertainties of the smelter’s future operation can be seen as a very big challenge to the firm itself and its stakeholders, which could influence smelter’s business, book value and relationships with suppliers, clients and its staff as well.
