According to statistics released by the European Aluminum Association (EAA), the aluminum recycling rate in Europe reached 74.5% in 2017, which hit a new high, up by 2.3% compared to 2016.

The recycling statistics showed that the number of recycled cans from the EU, Switzerland, Norway and Iceland totaled nearly 31 billion units, reaching 420,000 tons.

The EAA said that aluminum producers and aluminum can manufacturers will cooperate with public and private waste management companies to expand the investment and look for new methods for recycling since the energy required for producing primary aluminum was 95% lower than bauxite ore.

Besides, recycling aluminum produced only 5% greenhouse gas compared to the same amount of primary aluminum, which could reduce 3 million tons of greenhouse gas emissions per year based on the current recycling rate.
