Aluminum Company of America (Alcoa), the 3rd biggest aluminum producer in the world, has invested R$1.3 billion over the two years to replace the fossil fuels use at the Poços de Caldas facility (MG) and at the Maranhão Aluminium Consortium (Alumar), which was jointly formed by Alcoa Corporation, Rio Tinto, and South32.
The investment aimed to reach a net-zero carbon emission goal by 2050. Because its smelter was reactivated in April 2022, Alumar's output has been 100% clean and renewable.
