Alcoa Corporation announced the closure of its Intalco aluminum smelter in Washington State in the northwestern United States. The site will be prepared for new economic development.
The Intalco aluminum smelter was operated for nearly 55 years, and it has been fully idle since 2020. In spite of long-time evaluation, the analysis still showed that the facility couldn’t remain competitive for long.
The costs of restructuring and related charges related to the permanent closure were expected to be around US$120 million in the first quarter of 2023.
