Alcoa of Australia said that the production of its majority-owned Portland Aluminium in Victoria will be reduced to approximately 75% of its total production capacity of 358,000 tons per year due to the impact of unstable operations.

The production cut began immediately without setting time for the smelter to return to full capacity.

Portland Aluminium has a total of 408 smelting pots, and it was previously operated at around 95% of its total capacity and has recently encountered instability and challenges related to the production of rodded anodes.

Portland Aluminium is a joint venture between Alcoa of Australia (55%), CITIC Nominees (22.5%), and Marubeni Aluminium Australia (22.5%).
