According to statistics released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) of China, China’s primary aluminum production amounted to 6.74 million tons in the first two months of this year, rising by 6.5% compared to the same period a year ago. This figure hit the highest level for the two months since 2015.
The increase followed after China’s eased epidemic restrictions late last year and a series of stimulus policies to boost the economy and property sector, which increased expectations of higher domestic demand for aluminum.
In spite of the new production capacity launched in northwest Gansu province and increased output from smelters in the southwestern region, the overall aluminum production in China might be reduced due to the power use curbs in Yunnan.
