Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. said it has reached an agreement with an aluminum ingot supplier to purchase green aluminum from the company and will use green aluminum while producing motorcycles. This is the first time that green aluminum is used in Japanese motorcycles. Yamaha Motor said it plans to gradually expand the use of green aluminum in more models.
Green aluminum is a kind of material refined using renewable energy sources to emit less carbon dioxide during production. Aluminum accounts for 12% to 31% of the total vehicle weight, so utilizing green aluminum in vehicle manufacturing will greatly decrease carbon footprint.
