The Western Australian state government has banned Alcoa Corp., a leading aluminum producer in the US, from mining more jarrah forest near Serpentine Dam, the largest drinking water dam in Perth, so the company’s alumina production will be decreased for two years.
Mike Ferraro, Managing Director/CEO at Alumina, said that unless Alcoa is allowed to mine the Myara North region, it won’t have a sufficient quantity of bauxite to supply to its two alumina refineries in Western Australia for full-capacity operation.
