Global mining company Rio Tinto and Japan’s trading house Marubeni have agreed on a first sale to ensure a sustainable and reliable supply of Rio Tinto’s RenewAl high-purity aluminum to a Japanese motorcycle manufacturer that has a goal to reduce carbon emissions through its supply chains and production process.

The first sale of high-purity aluminum will be provided by Rio Tinto’s renewable-energy-powered New Zealand Aluminium Smelters (NZAS). RenewAl is the industry’s first certified low-carbon aluminum.

This sale was built up under a new strategic collaboration agreement between Rio Tinto and Marubeni. It combines Rio Tinto’s responsible aluminum products with Marubeni’s superiority in the trading network, commercial capability, as well as carbon credit mechanism.
