Japan’s UACJ to lay off employees shut a plant due to impact by US-China trade war
It was reported that UACJ Corporation, the largest manufacturer of aluminum products in Japan, announced to lay off around 15% of total employees, totaling 2,000 people, by the end of 2022. The firm was considering shutting a plant that mainly produced automotive heat exchanger materials in Nikk?, Tochigi in 2021, and the latter engineering part of aluminum processing at its Fukaya Works might also be stopped.

According to UACJ, the decision was made under the consideration of decreasing demand for aluminum materials of semiconductor manufacturing devices due to the US-China trade war. Besides, UACJ’s operating profit from April to June dropped significantly by 85 year on year to 1.3 billion yen because of the trade friction.
