Chinese copper imports aluminum exports decline in Aug m-o-m, y-o-y
2019/09/10
According to Chinese customs statistics, the imports of unwrought copper and copper products declined year on year and month on month in August due to economic slowdown, and the exports of unwrought aluminum and aluminum products also declined.

Chinese manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) kept falling down to 49.5 in August, which was the fourth consecutive month to reach below 50, despite it came back in July temporarily.

It was not a good sign for copper because manufacturing was the main demand source for copper. The imports of copper ore and the concentrate were around 1.82 million tons, a 12.5% decline compared with last month’s 2.07 million tons and a 9.3% decrease compared to the same period of last year.

In the first 8 months of 2019, two copper refineries were shut down due to the accident, causing the export amount to decline.
